Introduction to the lecturer:
Hua Xuecheng is a Doctor of Literature, a Distinguished Professor of BLCU (Beijing Language and Culture University), a Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education, a State Council Special Allowance Specialist, and a Ph.D. Supervisor. Currently, he is the Director of the Discipline Construction Committee of BLCU, the Director of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Chief Expert and Executive Director of the Beijing Literature Language and Culture Inheritance Research Base, the Director of the Institute of Literature Linguistics of BLCU, and the Chief Editor of Literature Linguistics. He is also an editorial board member for Chinese Linguistics at Peking University, the Li Yun Academic Journal (Language Volume) of Beijing Normal University and Language Research at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research fields focus on exegesis and historical vocabulary, ancient linguistic literature, the history of Chinese dialects and so on.
Eight of his monographs have been published, such as: A History of Dialects of the Zhou, Qin, Han and Jin Dynasties, Collations and Examples of Yang Xiong’s Fangyan and Collations and Interpretations of Yang Xiong’s Fangyan. Besides these, he has also authored a set of teaching materials and academic research books with eight volumes respectively, participated in the editing of many textbooks and reference books, and published more than 80 papers. Since the beginning of this century, he has won six important awards above the provincial and ministerial level, such as The National Excellent 100 Doctoral Dissertation Award, the First Prize of the 12th Wangli Linguistics Prize of Peking University and the First Prize of the Science Research Famous Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences). He has undertaken six projects above the provincial or ministerial level including key projects for Beijing, the Ministry of Education, and the National Social Science Fund of China. In 2016, he was given a major project called, the Integration of Ancient Chinese Dialectology, for the National Social Science Fund of China.
